5/7/2008        Tahiti Junior Open - ITTF Junior Circuit
                                                                       Return to Main Page

Tahiti will host from 1st to 5th July 2008 the annual Oceania leg of the ITTF Junior Circuit in its capital, Papeete.

Have you ever looked at the map of Tahiti? If not, you can see it at this picture. Obviously for us, table tennis fans, there is an immediate allegory: the table tennis racket, where Tahiti Iti represents the grip while Tahiti Nui represents the surface.

And in the surface, Papeete will host this tournament, in a land that conjures up images of beautiful white sandy beaches and blue coloured cocktails with umbrellas in them but on this occasion the focus is very much on the table tennis.

Intense Activity
There will be intense 20 days of activities, combining Oceania and international events. From 23rd to 27th June there will be an Oceania Training Camp as a preparation for the ITTF Junior Circuit, followed by the official ITTF Junior Circuit training camp led by Sweden's Emanuel Christiansson and assisted by Andrew Hubbard, Oceania Development Officer (28-30 June); then the ITTF Junior Circuit will be staged from 1st to 5th July.

Oceania Championships
Following the conclusion of the ITTF Junior Circuit event, table tennis will continue in Tahiti with the celebration of the Oceania Qualification tournament for the ITTF Cadet Challenge and World Junior Championships, the Oceania Championships and last but not least the Oceania Women's Forum.

In recent years the Oceania Junior circuit event has had excellent entries from Asia, looking to meet the continental participation requirements, while participating in exotic locations that make the journey all the more interesting.

From the ITTF Junior Commission we really encourage all players of the world to make a stop in some of the most beautiful lands on earth.

ITTF Junior Circuit
The Tahiti Junior Open will feature both team and individual events in the junior and cadet categories.

Prize Fund
The Tahiti Table Tennis Association offers a total of US$4,980 in prize money.
