There
has now been two rounds of round-robin play. It is a best of nine match
format with three players against three players with all matches being
played out. No major upsets but in the first match of the day when
Solomon Islands played Vanuatu, there were some nervous moments for
Vanuatu’s Ham Frexley Lulu when he found himself down one set to nil
and trailing 6 - 2 against a player with no current Oceania ranking and
unknown quantity Solomons Islands player Polin Yang. Ham managed to turn
the match around and went on to win three sets to one. Team
Fiji will be hoping that their number one women’s player and reigning
Mini- South Pacific Games Gold medalist Qu Rujuan makes a full recovery
from a blow to the head that she received while warming up before a
deciding pool match. The incident happened when team mate Venetia Koi
who was warming up right beside Rujuan accidently followed through to
far on a backhand topspin and caught her teammate squarely on the side
of the head. Play stopped for about twenty minutes before Rujuan was
required to start play in the first match of the contest against Tomorrow
