2007 SOUTH PACIFIC GAMES - SAMOA 2007

Some comments from this morning’s matches. 

Somoa go on to record there first win in International play in Men’s table tennis after a ten year absence. John Leasi Galuvao from Samoa only dropped one set on his way to winning three matches for his team.

Day two at the South Pacific Games – Mens Team event – Kiribati played Vanuatu in what was a must win match for either team to progress out of the group play and into tomorrows semi-finals.  

The 8-1 winning scoreline for Vanuatu line did not reflect the number of close matches and intensity of the encounter. In the second match Kevin Reo led two sets to nil before Tsi Mok battled his way back to win 3-2.

In the fourth match Kevin Reo was leading 10-6 in the fifth set against Yoshua Shing, The lead was slowly reduced and Yoshua went on to win the match. In an upset result Kiribati cadet Nooa Takooa who recently benefited from four weeks of intensive training with Oceania Women’s Champion Karen Li as well as attending the North Harbour WJC and ITTF training camp defeated 2007 ITTF Scholarship holder Yoshua Shing who has been training in China for the last six months.

The Solomon Islands recorded there first win over American Samoa .

In the Women’s team event New Caledonia secured a match against Kiribati 5-4 to ensure that they progress into tomorrow’s semi-finals. Ornella Bouteille was the player that performed when the pressure came on. With the teams tied at  4-4 she was up against Kiribati ’s Atea Tetabo who had also had two comfortable 3-0 wins. After losing the first set Ornella came back to win 3 – 1 and New Caledonia were through.
