Disappointment
for Fiji
In
today’s Women's Team semi- final’s
Tahiti
won 5-0
Fiji
Team Captain and veteran
SPG
campaigner with five
SPG
’s under his belt Anthony Ho on his team’s preparation and results
here at the Games ’I think our preparation has been very good,
especially the women’s team. We had a number of training camps, we
bought in overseas coaches to work with the squad, we have attended
nearly every major event in the region for the last three years and we
closed our preparation s in
New Zealand
in the last couple of week’s with attendance at a major tournament
where I thought we did relatively well. “
Question
- Andrew
Yesterday you lost 5-4 to
Tahiti
in the Pool 2 decider for 1st and 2nd , there was only one
game between the two teams. What’s your reaction to this result?
Answer
- Anthony Ho:
We were very disappointed with the result despite the closeness of the
match and individual scores. We relied on Wang Qui winning his three
matches, which he did with some struggle and we were quite confident
that Richel Sen would win two of his three matches based on the current
ratings. It goes to show that all the major table tennis countries in
the region have been preparing well.’
Question
- Andrew:
On your semi-final loss to
New Caledonia
you lost 5-2.
Answer
- Anthony
We knew it was going to be a tough match up against a seasoned New
Caledonian team, comprising of multi
SPG
gold medalist’s Frederick Quach and Laurent Sens. Despite that we were
hopeful that Wan Qi would win his three matches and Anthony and Richel
would defeat there third player who were considered to be the weak link
in there team
On
the women’s team ‘ we always knew Vanuatu were going to be pretty
strong given that they are the current gold medallist's and the fact
that we knew they had a very good preparation in China and have also
attended all the events in the region like us and they have had access
to coaches from china for the last twelve years,
Question
Andrew . The women’s team had a heavy 5-0 loss against
Tahiti
, your reaction.
Disappointed,
we hoped Qu would win at least two of her singles which she has done
before and like wise Shriti and Ventia should have won at least two of
there three games based on their past results against those players.
The
Bronze medal match between
Fiji
and
New Caledonia
your women lost 5-1 comment.

“ Disappointed that the girls couldn’t lift there game for this big
